St. Augustine
St. Augustine is one of those places that gets harder to explain the longer you live here. It is the old city around the Plaza and the Castillo, but it is also Lincolnville, Uptown, Anastasia Island, the neighborhoods west of U.S. 1, the beaches, the marshes and all the places locals disappear to when downtown gets crowded. You can come here for Spanish history and spend the afternoon drinking on a patio. You can come for the beach and accidentally spend three hours inside a museum.
This is the big front door to the Guide. Start here if you are not sure which version of St. Augustine you came looking for. The historic sites, restaurants, tours and hotels are all part of it, but so are the side streets, old neighborhoods, weird little attractions and places you probably will not find by following a trolley map.
