World Golf Village
The golf-focused community west of I-95, with two championship courses, easy interstate access, and a quieter base for travelers who want golf without beach traffic.
World Golf Village sits west of Interstate 95 in St. Johns County, a planned community built around two championship golf courses (the King & Bear and the Slammer & Squire), a Renaissance hotel, and what was originally the World Golf Hall of Fame complex. The Hall of Fame itself has closed, but the area remains one of Northeast Florida’s most accessible golf destinations, with reliable lodging, restaurants, and direct interstate access making it a strong base for golf-focused travelers and for visitors who want to be near St. Augustine without staying right in the historic district or at the beach.
The community is built around its two courses. The King & Bear, designed by the only collaboration between Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, plays through wetlands and pines with the kind of strategic challenge their names imply. The Slammer & Squire, named for Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen, offers a different but equally well-designed test. Together they give serious golfers two days of memorable golf without the booking difficulty or pricing of TPC Sawgrass to the north.
For visitors, World Golf Village works best as a base for golf trips, family stays where the parents want easy interstate access, and budget-conscious travelers who don’t mind a 15-minute drive into Historic Downtown for restaurants and attractions. It’s also one of the few areas with reliable hotel inventory at moderate prices when downtown and the beach fill up. This guide covers the courses, the lodging, and how to make the most of a stay here.
Golf at World Golf Village
The two courses are the reason the community exists, and they remain top-tier public-access golf for serious travelers. Book ahead in peak season, especially during the spring tournament months when nearby TPC Sawgrass increases regional demand.

Local tip
Stay-and-play packages through the Renaissance hotel often beat booking the rooms and tee times separately. If you’re traveling with a foursome, ask about group rates and twilight rounds. Most golf trips here split rounds across both courses, with one rest day in between for downtown sightseeing or the beach.
Where to Stay at World Golf Village
The area’s lodging is dominated by the Renaissance Resort and a handful of brand hotels along the I-95 corridor. For golf trips, staying inside the community is ideal. For broader trips, the I-95 Exit 323 hotels make a flexible base.
For longer stays
Vacation rentals through First Choice Florida Vacation Rentals include properties throughout St. Johns County, including options closer to World Golf Village. For golf groups or families wanting kitchen access and more space, a rental can beat the hotel route on price and comfort.
Where to Eat
Dining options inside the immediate World Golf Village footprint are limited but expanding, and downtown St. Augustine is a quick drive away. Most golf travelers split meals between the resort dining and trips into the historic district.
Things to Do Nearby
A World Golf Village stay puts you close to several worthwhile destinations beyond golf, from Halloween events at Sykes Family Farms to easy access to all of St. Augustine’s main attractions.
Practical Tips
Getting There
Take I-95 to Exit 323 (International Golf Parkway) and head east. The community is just east of the interstate. From downtown St. Augustine, head west on FL-16 or US-1 North to International Golf Parkway.
Tee Time Strategy
Spring and fall are peak. Book at least a month ahead for weekends in March through May and October through November. Summer is hot but offers great rates and easier availability.
Combining With Beach
WGV to St. Augustine Beach is about 30 minutes, longer in summer traffic. If your trip is mostly beach, stay closer to the coast. If it’s mostly golf, stay at WGV and visit the beach on rest days.
Hall of Fame Note
The World Golf Hall of Fame officially closed its St. Augustine museum in 2024, with collections relocating to Pinehurst, NC. The community and courses remain. Don’t plan a visit around the museum.
