Lightner Museum

The Lightner Museum is exactly the sort of place St. Augustine should have: an enormous former Gilded Age hotel filled with art, antiques, decorative objects and wonderfully odd things collected by a man who took collecting very seriously.

The building was once Henry Flagler’s Hotel Alcazar, and it competes with the collection for your attention. Even people who claim they are “not museum people” tend to find something in here that stops them. Give yourself permission to wander rather than trying to understand every room in order.
